10 Books that's Been Sitting on My Shelf for Waaaay Too Long!

Hello,

I was thinking of post ideas and I remembered that I haven't done something like this. I've seen this kind of list around before and I thought maybe it's time for me to do it as well. This list will also serve as a shameful reminder of how long I've been neglecting my books.

With this list out here, tell me what I should read next! Is any of these on your fave list? Tell me what you think of them! Tell me why I should read them! Tell me if I should just unhaul them.

Allegiant (Divergent #3) | Veronica Roth
Life on Shelf: 3 years and 3 months
I bought this along with Insurgent which I read a couple of years ago. I finished it. Didn't enjoy it as much as Divergent. Saw the bloodydamn spoiler. Saw the ugly Insurgent movie. Those things just made me feel done with the series. But I don't know. Whenever I consider unhauling this book, I just can't. It's like an unfinished business I need to see through the end. You know what I mean?

Night Film | Marisha Pessl
Life on Shelf: 2 years and 9 months
I saw this on the Goodreads Choice Awards. It didn't win but I'm intrigued. This was a difficult book to find in my place. It was also a bit expensive since I was still a student when I bought it. When I got it though, I browsed through its glorious pages and said, I'm reading this soon. whenever the heck that 'soon' is.

Tesla's Attic (the Accelerati Trilogy #1) | Neal Shusterman, Eric Elfman
Life on Shelf: 2 years and 7 months
I'm a Neal Shusterman trash, okay? When I see Neal Shusterman on the cover, I buy. I'm an easy kid. I didn't care what this thing is about. I didn't care that it's a middle grade book. Heck, I didn't even check its goodreads rating or whatnot. I'm scared to read this though because it's middle grade. I tried it before and just got through a couple of pages. Not sure if it's a not-for-me book or I'm just not in the mood. But I'm think it was my mood because I only got through a couple of pages.

Gone (Gone #1) | Michael Grant
Life on Shelf: 2 years
This one was me going around the bookstore and wanting to take home a book. I generally bought this because I always see this book around. I heard that it's about zombies and it's an exciting read.

Afterworlds | Scott Westerfeld
Life on Shelf: 1 year and 11 months
I've never read a Scott Westerfeld book but I've read great things about him. And this one? Two worlds? One is the writer and the other is the one he/she's writing about? It sounds fantastic. Also, this looks so pretty. Just look at that cover! But it's a huge book I'm telling ya. Okay, it's just 400 or 500 pages, I think, but it's bloodydamn heavy.

The Serpent King | Jeff Zetner
Life on Shelf: 1 year and 4 months
I only bought this just because it's been receiving great reviews including, of course, people I trust. When I first saw this, I thought it's some fantasy novel or something but it turns out to be a contemporary novel. But now, somehow, I don't really feel like reading this. Convince me, please?

A Madness So Discreet | Mindy McGinnis
Life on Shelf: 1 year and 4 months
I was suuuuuper excited for this one. Was. Now? I don't know. Somehow excited? I mean it's a historical fiction novel. Set in an asylum. Just how interesting is that? That's just one of the most read-me-now book in the general fiction genre. IT'S HISTORICAL FICTION, PEOPLE! WHY HAVEN'T I READ THIS YET?

The Cure for Dreaming | Cat Winters
Life on Shelf: 1 year and 3 months
OMG, ANOTHER HISTORICAL FICTION IN THIS LIST! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!? Anyway, I received this from Renu @ the page turner as a giveaway prize -- it's a book of your choice prize, btw. So yeah, I chose this because I want to read more of Cat Winters but WHY IS THIS STILL SITTING ON MY SHELF?

S. | J.J. Abrahams, Doug Dorst
Life on Shelf: 1 year
This one is one of those expensive and difficult to find books. I was always keeping my eyes out for this one and I finally got it as a choose your own books gift from my dad on my birthday last year. This was one of my picks. I've seen this book around and it sounds really fantastic. Also, it's quite similar to Afterworlds but I have a great feeling that this is better than Afterworlds.

Illuminae (the Illuminae Files #1) | Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
Life on Shelf: 9 months
I'm giving you permission to shout at me for still not reading this glorious book. I mean just look at that amazing book cover, clear jacket, format, and those 593683232 million 5-star reviews and 593683232 million raving readers!

  1. I would consider most of these books new. I have unread books sitting on my shelves that are more than 10 years old. I will get to them...someday. Illuminae is the only book on your list that I have read and really enjoyed it. I can't get myself to read Allegiant either.

  2. Gone has been on my shelf for SO LONG. It was an impulse buy from Book Outlet and I've literally never looked at it since it arrived (like a year ago or more) >.< Oops. Also, it's funny how we basically bought it for the same reasons hahaha

  3. I too have never read Allegiant! I got spoiled for a lot of it, and I just don't have any interest in the series anymore. I also fell asleep watching the Allegiant movie when I rented so... I have Afterworlds for such a long time too!! You're right that book is SO heavy!! I'm now officially shouting at you to read Illuminae! It is SO good. And the sequel is even better! Hope you love these czai! (even Allegiant, haha!)
