AUGUST WRAPUP (aka my birthday month which went by unnoticed)

we're back to this kind of bookish shots!
Hi,

As I mentioned before, I'm on a blogging slump. I'm not the most active reviewer/blogger out there but at this point, I'm never motivated to actually schedule reviews and generally post anything. at all. But I try to get these update posts every now and then 😅

Little life update corner right here, August was my Birthday Month. I didn't have any big birthday party or anything, as usual. Neither did I receive any books for my birthday which is sad af because usually I get a book or two. BUT I did get to spend my day on an out of town vacation with my family and the last Saturday of the month with my best friend and while I'm weirdly awkward, I still had a fantastic time. Also, we're seeing each other again on #MIBF (Manila International Book Fair) which is the biggest book fair in the Philippines. Super excited for it!

books read

How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry | The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters | The Queen of the Tearling (the Queen of the Tearling #1) by Erika Johansen

I read How to Find Love in a Bookshop the moment I got it. It was a cute story although it wasn't something I was expecting. I was kind of hoping to read something cheesier maybe? But I do LOVE how it shows the impact of bookstores and booksellers to its customers 💖 The Cure for Dreaming, on the other hand was a really quick read for me. I LOVE Cat Winters' writing! I like the historical aspect of the novel as well as how it isn't doused with too much romance just enough to make me smile 😊 I finished The Queen of the Tearling last night. I started it a month or so ago. It had a rough and slow start for me. It's how fantasies go with me. I don't know why. I probably suck at getting into new worlds. However, around 60% or 70% of the book, things started picking up and I easily breezed through it.

books hauled

How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry | Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell | The Road Beyond Ruin by Gemma Liviero | Platinum End, vol. 6 by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (illustrator)

I bought How to Find Love in a Bookshop and Mary Barton for my birthday. I didn't splurge because of the upcoming Book Fair. Because of this post, I guess it's safe to share The Road Beyond Ruin cover 😉 I got super psyched when the author PMed me asking if I want an advance e-copy. Can't say no to that, yeah? Also, it's a post-WWII book! 😊 So happy when my copy of Platinum End, vol.6 finally arrived. I already read the first chapter. Gotta speed through this soon!

September to-be-read

You know what? I'm not going to pressure myself this month (not that I get pressured by the TBRs I actually post. lol). I'm just not going to push myself to stick to specific books because I never stick to them as I noticed. I might actually not set any TBRs every month anymore. lol.

although, if you guys know any read-a-thons happening this month, please tell me or link them 😉

HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS,
How was your August? Anything you want to share? New hobby, projects, travel, books, school life?

    1. Thank you, Abby! I hope you get the chance to read The Queen of the Tearling soon. It's good although it had a slow start for me. I heard it gets better in the following books :)

  2. I loved The Queen of the Tearling, but it is indeed slow. I think I was sucked into the world when I first read it because I didn't know when/where it was set that there could be references to stuff we take for granted today. So the mystery intrigued me! The next book, The Invasion of the Tearling, is much faster with a touch of dystopian.

    1. I wasn't a big fantasy reader but I'm glad it still somehow worked out for me. The references also intrigued me. It felt like a futuristic world but a fantasy one. I already borrowed the 2nd book but I'm trying to get through some of my borrowed books first. The stack is starting to get a bit overwhelming. lol.
