[WEEKEND READS] where I tell you that I'll probably be gone for a while

#currentlyreading
Hello,

I missed #weekendreads last week because #busylife (and also maybe because I've been procrastinating a lot. gotta blame myself for that!). BUT now that sh!t escalates, I have to say that I may not be posting as much as usual.

Why is this happening? Last Wednesday, it was announced that my undergraduate thesis defense will be on the 25th or 27th of March too close, I know which is why, I will be gone for a while. I've procrastinated so much and now I'm dead hustling. I'll be reading books and writing quick reviews but I'll have them up on goodreads (add me as a friend if you haven't. let's stalk each other's reading updates!) and have full reviews by late March or April.

Yup, I'll be back (not that I'll be gone for good. you people can't get rid of me that easily.) on late March or early April depending on how our defense will go. Send me prayers and wish me the best of luck, please. Thanksssss!! The next few days will be crazy for me! #weekendreads will still be up every Saturday though, I hope.

recent reads

Made You Up | Francesca Zappia
I read Made You Up for #bookentine. I was so excited for this because everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) loved this. I like Alex and her unreliable narration. I also like how it involves a bit of humor, and history, and that hate to love relationship between Alex and Miles. Also THAT plot twist. The school rumors though. I don't know what to feel about that. But I liked this. I enjoyed it and I thought the ending was really fantastic. Review soon! (if not next week; by the end of March.)

The Seven Dials Mystery (Superintendent Battle #2) | Agatha Christie
This is my 1st Christie Mystery for 2017! This had a slow build up for it but after a few chapters, I found it intriguing and thrilling. This is also the first Christie novel I read that involved humor and a dash of romance which was really amusing. Also, the plot twist was crazy! And as usual, I'm like: I COMPLETELY did not see that coming!

current reads

Rose Petal Graves (the Lost Clan #1) | Olivia Wildenstein
This is more of an 'okay' read for me. It's a contemporary fantasy -- ya know, same world, current time but with faeries and magic. They even have their own words. Fancy. iT EVEN HAS A GLOSSARY AT THE END!! I like that the heroine is a uni student studying medicine and her ancestors are faeries! Also at first, I was a bit confused of the actual story. I was like: wHERE THE HECK IS THE PLOT? But around 50%, things started getting a bit more interesting and a bit foreshadowing here and there and a possible love triangle (oh should i even be surprise here?*).

Cruel Beauty | Rosamund Hodge
I've only read a like three chapters. It's an okay thing. YA Mythology-Fantasy-Retelling. Interesting. Also, I feel for Nyx (not in a relatable way of course). Also, I like the writing. Not exactly plain descriptive writing but not exactly as beautiful and flowery as Roshani Chokshi. But it does give a fantasy-retelling-thing feel to it. If ya know what I mean (if that even made sense.** lol).

* i hope my sarcasm reaches you well.
** i know, i don't really make so much sense most of the time.

next reads

Duels & Deception | Cindy Anstey
YA historical romance. Regency era. Haven't exactly finished a book in that historical setting. I read The Dark Days Club last December but did not finish it. Might continue it at some point but most likely not. ANYWAY, I'm excited for this one!!

King's Cage (Red Queen #3) | Victoria Aveyard
I am excited to read this for Maven!! If you must know, 'cause I bet you don't or forgot, I like Maven like 100% more than Cal (which is weird and wrong in so many ways. but that's just me being weird.). Anyway, glad that this isn't over hyped, 'cause if it is, I'll be too scared to read it. lol.

HOW ABOUT YOU
What books did you recently finish? What are you currently reading? What do you plan to pick up next? Any new faves?

let's connect!

    1. Thanks, Julie! I hope you enjoy Red Queen! I like it but I'm not a big fan. I actually have mixed feelings for it. Also, I'd love to know if you're #teamCal or #teamMaven (everyone I know is obviously #teamCal *sigh*)
