Hi,

Two clans. Only one will survive.
The only life seventeen-year-old Kol knows is hunting at the foot of the Great Ice with his brothers. But food is becoming scarce, and without another clan to align with, Kol, his family, and their entire group are facing an uncertain future.
Traveling from the south, Mya and her family arrive at Kol’s camp with a trail of hurt and loss behind them, and hope for a new beginning. When Kol meets Mya, her strength, independence, and beauty instantly captivate him, igniting a desire for much more than survival.
Then on a hunt, Kol makes a grave mistake that jeopardizes the relationship that he and Mya have only just started to build. Mya was guarded to begin with—and for good reason—but no apology or gesture is enough for her to forgive him. Soon after, another clan arrives on their shores. And when Mya spots Lo, a daughter of this new clan, her anger intensifies, adding to the already simmering tension between families. After befriending Lo, Kol learns of a dark history between Lo and Mya that is rooted in the tangle of their pasts.
When violence erupts, Kol is forced to choose between fighting alongside Mya or trusting Lo’s claims. And when things quickly turn deadly, it becomes clear that this was a war that one of them had been planning all along.
why did I get this. it's just one of those books that I got a chance to get. I joined a giveaway because I thought the books was interesting although I wasn't really that hyped for it. I won. I got it!
why is it still in my tbr. I never really felt interested to pick it up. I'll probably do that at some point but probably not in the next month or so.

From the breakthrough international bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice, a breathtaking, page-turning novel about a disgraced female detective’s fight for redemption. And survival…
Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly turned into a nightmare. Traumatized, betrayed, and publicly vilified for the shocking circumstances surrounding the cannibal murder case, Kate could only watch as her career ended in scandal.
Fifteen years after those catastrophic events, Kate is still haunted by the unquiet ghosts of her troubled past. Now a lecturer at a small coastal English university, she finally has a chance to face them. A copycat killer has taken up the Nine Elms mantle, continuing the ghastly work of his idol.
Enlisting her brilliant research assistant, Tristan Harper, Kate draws on her prodigious and long-neglected skills as an investigator to catch a new monster. Success promises redemption, but there’s much more on the line: Kate was the original killer’s intended fifth victim…and his successor means to finish the job.
why did I get this. because I read and enjoy a couple of Robert Bryndza books. Also got this because it was on Kindle Deals (so why not, yeah?)
why is it still in my tbr. I don't know, to be honest. I'm still not up for it, I guess? Waiting for the right mood.
HOW ABOUT YOU
Have you read these books? What do you think of them? Should I put them at the top of my tbr?
let's connect!
I actually went to a release event for Ivory and Bone (because SJM was there), but I never read it. The premise is pretty interesting though.
ReplyDeleteit is but it wasn't interesting enough for me to pick it up at some point (I ever even added it to my monthly tbr which is weird). Hopefully soon.
DeleteI love that "unprecendented times" are inspiring people to go to the backlist and all their unread books. I LOVE female British detective stories so maybe I will try that one!
ReplyDeleteit made me look back at my old tbr since I also still get out of my home. Hope you get to read and enjoy Nine Elms :) I like Robert Bryndza's other books
DeleteI'm tackling my physical TBR this year. I thought I would read more during all this but I haven't.
ReplyDeleteI have managed to read 6 out of 63 this year so...Not great but a start.

I feel you. At the beginning of the quarantine I read so fast but after a couple of weeks, my motivation just went off. Looking at it another way, I think at least there's progress :) that's always a good start
DeleteI think both of these look so good, I hope you get around to reading them
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lily :)
DeleteI can be a bit of a mood reader and sometimes pass over books for years until I feel the urge to pick them up. I hope you enjoy both of these when you do pick them up! Thanks for joining in!
ReplyDeleteSame! I usually get the urge to grab a book as soon as I see them in the bookstore but end up holding them off in my shelf for quite a while. Thank you, Carole :)
